Whether you are a professional wedding photographer or just a hobbyist photographer, having an online website with your portfolio can help you to attract some more new clients.
If you have a photography website, people can view your photos and contact you through your website. If you don’t have skills to create a website yourself, you can always hire someone to do it for you.
However, I recommend following a step-by-step tutorial on how to do it yourself. You can build your website with WordPress and just use a nice premium photography WordPress theme. If you don’t know how to set up WordPress, this series of basic tutorials will help you get started.
In this article I will review 10 of the best photography themes for WordPress.
Gallery Pro Theme
The first one on my list is the Gallery Pro Theme from StudioPress. It is a premium WordPress theme that uses the Genesis Framework (you can buy them together). Gallery Pro is a minimalist theme with an emphasis on gallery images. The theme also features beautiful typography and is nicely customizable.
It comes with ready page templates like Blog, Galleries, Landing Page or Columns, too. If you like clean minimalist style, this is an ideal photography theme for you.
Photocrati
Photocrati offers a package of 60+ premium WordPress themes for photographers.
Actually, it is one theme, but it has 60 different starting designs. (Transparency is the design featured in the photo above.) I believe you’ll find a layout that you will like. Other features include built-in gallery management, thumbnail galleries, four built-in lightboxes and one year of updates and email support. It also includes widget areas for customization.
An interesting feature of this theme is that it has a right click protection with which you can prevent your visitors from saving and copying your images. I think this is a great feature for a photographer!
Divi
Divi is a premium multi-purpose WordPress theme from Elegant Themes. It is not advertised as a photography theme, but I have included it in my list, because you can create some really nice photography websites using it.
Just check these 16 photography websites built with Divi as some examples. Or, if you want to learn more about the Divi theme, you can check out my Divi theme tips & tutorials blog on which I blog mostly about the Divi theme. It is a really nice & flexible theme and comes with its own Divi Page Builder that has both backend and frontend visual builder.
Aperture
The fourth one on my list is a free photography theme called Aperture. It is a minimalist theme that is, of course, responsive. It features a fullscreen slider. It has a black stripe on the top that includes the logo, menu navigation, social icons and the search icon. Overall, it is a nice theme that can be nicely used to display your photos full-screen.
Photo Session
The next one on my list is another free photography theme. Photosession looks similar to the Aperture theme mentioned above. It is a responsive theme with a fullscreen slider. It can be used to create a portfolio, gallery, photography or a personal website. The theme is compatible with plugins like Contact Form 7 or WooCommerce, so you can use it to build an ecommerce store as well.
Harmonic
Harmonic is another free photography theme that features a responsive fullscreen slider that you can use to display your photos or other design work. This theme looks similar to the Aperture theme mentioned above, but it has the social icons situated on the left and the menu links on the right while the Aperture theme has them located the other way round.
SKT Black
SKT Black is a free multi-purpose theme that can be customized in many ways. It features a fullscreen slider on the homepage. It also has a theme options panel that you can use for example to setup your social icons, without the need of touching a single line of code.
Hitchcock
The Hitchcock theme is my favorite one from this list, as I really like its look. It features a fullscreen parallax background and the photographs can be displayed over it in a masonry style layout. It also features a custom header image, social icons menu (below the headline), editor styling and other features. This theme includes a Swedish translation, too.
Pinnacle
Pinnacle is another great-looking free WordPress theme for photographers. However, of course it can be used by people from other professions as well, not just photographers. This theme is fully compatible with WooCommerce, so you can build with it a nice ecommerce store, too. Personally, I really like this theme.
Gridsby
As the name is of this theme suggests, with Gridsby you can display your photos or work on it in a grid style format. It is easy to setup and it is retina ready, too. It features an easy way for posting photos to the homepage gallery. It is a neat theme, ideal for photographers or artists, especially if you have a lot of work to show.
So this the end of my premium & free photography themes list. I hope it will help you to choose the right theme for you.
