Call it a portable career, a laptop lifestyle, or the digital nomad life, I’m glad I have the ability to work from anywhere with an internet connection.
I have five adult children, and they’re scattered all over the US, from Seattle to LA to Boston and various points in between. About a week ago, one of my kids called, really needing some help dealing with a major situation.
Because my work isn’t tied to any one place, I was able to fly up on short notice, and stay for about 10 days. While I was there helping out, I was also able to work.
Here are just five of the reasons why WordPress makes a great foundation for a business that’s portable.
#1. WordPress is Portable and Mobile
Of course you can access your WordPress dashboard on your computer or laptop, but did you know you can also use a mobile device to work on your WordPress site?
Go to https://wordpress.org/mobile/ to download an app for your Android or iOS device.
It lets you easily post, check stats, and respond quickly when someone leaves a comment thanks to push notifications.
Or, if you don’t want to download the app, you can just open a browser on your phone or tablet and log into the Dashboard from there.
#2. WordPress Gives Clients a Way to Connect with You
Include a contact form and you provide a way for prospects to connect with you, no matter where you are.
#3. WordPress Makes Your Portfolio or Samples Available 24/7
No need to send out samples to prospects, just add them to your site and they’re there all the time. If you’re an
- artist
- photographer
- writer
- marketer
- designer
- programmer
. . . let your body of work to speak for itself on your WordPress site.
#4. Sell Stuff 24/7
Whether you’re selling physical or digital products, WordPress has plenty of ways to automate your sales so they can happen even when you’re away from the office.
You can also sell tickets to events, tours, classes, conferences, and more.
#5. Automate Social Media
Use a plugin like CoSchedule to automate a lot of social media, freeing you up to spend more time doing other things.
Here’s the Best Part
Even if you don’t have your own business based on WordPress, you can create a WordPress site to start a side gig, or even to enhance the job you have. Include a resume, list major accomplishments, get your portfolio in front of people, and add WordPress skills to your resume in the process.
